June was a busy month as usual to start off my summer season. June 11th through 14th I was at the Folk Art Center demonstrating crochet lace in the glass-enclosed lobby, a very inviting oasis for visitors after quite a walk from the parking lot to the building. Being in the first spot right inside the door allowed me to welcome visitors and give a short introduction to our galleries, museum, exhibitions and demonstrators.

May was a fast-moving blur while I was kicking off my summer season. I had several restorations coming in, enjoyed our annual Fiber Day celebration at the Folk Art Center and the kick-off to the annual Brevard Music Festival. Patrons had a lovely reception with previews of several of the operas and an opportunity to visit with new and returning students and members of the faculty. The Creamery was a great place to have ice cream for dinner! A couple of days later, winter came back with a vengeance—2” of snow, 18 degrees on the porch, and a cyclone of snow for my friends up north.

Mother Nature really had her way with us in January; I am between last weekend’s ice storm and this weekend’s snowstorm as I write this for the first of February.
Thank God for my gas fireplace; our power was out for just one day, mostly due to the extensive work done by Duke Power after Hurricane Helene. The roads were iced over for a couple of days but now we have two to three days before the next storm is coming in.
Staying warm by the fireplace was a perfect opportunity
