July Musings

The sad events from May necessitated taking a close look at all of Dave’s computers and hard drives and it turns out that I will need several brave people to do all the different jobs he did for my Heirloom Treasures business. Paula Easton did a great job resurrecting this website but I will also need a video editor to finish up my next Udemy workshop as well as a good PR person to continue building my business.

It is absolutely amazing to see all of Dave’s computer jungle; monitors, keyboards, hard drives, video cameras, the video studio set-up, cords and chargers and many baskets and drawers of undefinable (to me) small but important things. I will need one IT genius who lives close by to get me out of trouble. I trust that all will come in good time and I am grateful for the help and support I have already received. I live in a wonderful community where neighbors help neighbors; we are a close family.

Rita CrochetingThis coming week will be exciting for me. For the first time I will be teaching at JC Campbell Folk School in Hayesville, NC (folkschool.org)  from July 4 to July 9. I am looking forward to being with a special group of ladies, coming from anywhere between Chicago and Key West. We are working on Crochet Fun with Contemporary Applications and will cover rounds and squares, crochet cables, Tunisian lace, Broomstick lace, and thread crochet including miniatures and Irish lace. Many visitors to the Folk School enjoy a restful week in the mountains, and so will I. The week away will be fun and uplifting for me.

After a couple of weeks back home I have my next demonstration session at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway from July 22 through 25 from 10 am to 4 pm. The time there is always a treat for me as well, being with our visitors and other artists is very enjoyable and healing for me.

So much to do yet, but at night I have been working on special orders for the next demo; I replenished barefoot beach sandals, baby hats and the ever popular baby bottom bundles. Covid 19 created many new babies, items for little ones are hot sellers at this time.

I wish each one of you could come by the Folk Art Center to visit and bring your current projects!

Have a safe and happy summer!
