After a wonderful Thanksgiving with good friends it is time to deck the halls! A prior trip to the Biltmore Estate always puts me in the right frame of mind to tackle that fun job! Now the house is decked out with my many old European decorations, often purchased at a Christmas Mart when I was a little girl. There are also garlands, bows and hundreds of tiny white lights.
The corner spot next to the fire place is ready for our annual ritual of finding the perfect, tall Frazer Fir at the Lion’s Club tree lot. My old steamer trunk holds well over 500 ornaments from far and near and 1,000 lights are ready to grace the tree. I have several tree toppers, from old German Santa Claus to Italian Murano glass and I let them take turns in that place of honor.
Just a couple more days and I can sit back and enjoy the fruits of labor! I am ready for some rest in the glow of those Christmas lights. Of course I will probably work on a restoration project, since my hands can’t stand to be still for any length of time. I have it on good authority that they move, even when I am asleep!
December brings our annual Holiday sales at the Folk Art Center, the first one is December 2nd. but I decided I needed to get the decorations done at home to get into the holiday spirit! I will have a table at the second sale on December 9th. and the weather forecast promises a crisp winter day.
Many of my pieces are reduced 25 to 50% and hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, boot cuffs and Victorian ornaments are reduced for holiday bargain hunters.
As you can see on this site, I have reduced the cost of my workshop videos through the rest of the year and both of my books are available in time for the holidays, so don’t forget to treat yourself to a gift of fiber art inspiration!
I have one more demo date at the Folk Art Center from December 14th. through the 17th. and then it is time for holiday celebrations! I always love to top off a successful year with an imaginary trip to New York to watch the ball drop for a happy new year!
Have a wonderful holiday season, a very merry Christmas and time to rest, create and dream!
